High school students start a band to escape the pressures of being a teen
On Friday, November 3, 2023, the up-and-coming band Blueraven played at Sozo Coffeehouse in downtown Omaha. What started as teenage neighbors with a common interest in music, they organically formed a band, writing and playing original music.
Blueraven is composed of four bandmates: Landon (18) on rhythm guitar, Collin (18) on drums, Bithia (18) on bass guitar, and Sammy (17) on lead guitar. Landon and Sammy take turns as lead vocals while Bithia and Collin hold the foundation of their live performances.
Sozo Coffeehouse was pleased to have Blueraven, and they were invited back to play again. After the show, Sammy Ramos shared, “Playing at shows together fills a sense of camaraderie and teamwork, building us up with anticipation and excitement. I never thought we would get this far as a band, but if you really put in work and have a good connection with your team, anything can happen.“
Parents and friends filled the room in support of their new achievement. They’ve become a new inspiration to the community as youths find a positive outlet in today’s world.
Arnel Ramos, one of the parents in attendance, shared, “I think having that sense of responsibility and accomplishment built their character and become role models for their siblings. It also helps pave the way for them to handle the challenges of adulthood: planning, coordinating, time management, and social interactions.“
