Family’s Accusations Backfire When Woman Reveals Support for Their Jobless Son
A Reddit user shares that her fiance’s parents frequently imply she is a gold digger. But his parents don’t know that their son has been unemployed for months. And this Reddit user has been supporting him.
The Parent’s Comments Are Demeaning
The original poster (OP) says her fiance’s family always makes demeaning comments hinting OP is a gold digger. For example, when the mother notices OP is wearing a new item, the mother will comment, “You know what this looks like, right?” or “Only gold diggers make their partners pay for stuff all the time; just saying.”
And although the mother never calls OP a gold digger directly, there is no denying she is being passive-aggressive when making those comments. What makes things worse is OP’s fiance doesn’t do anything to stop it.

It Was The Last Straw
One week, OP and her fiance were invited to dinner by his parents. The fiance’s mom grabs OP’s hand after noticing the bracelet she’s wearing, asking if her son bought it for her. And OP reminded the mother that her son bought it for her birthday last year.Â
The mother couldn’t help herself again by saying, “I remember when my brother was dating this gold digger woman…she’d receive expensive stuff like his bracelet.” And as she was speaking, she pointed at OP’s bracelet.Â
OP confronted her fiance’s mother and asked if she was implying she was a gold digger. The mother laughed and responded, “I mean…if the shoe fits.”Â
He Did Nothing To Stop It
OP looked to her fiance to see if he would stick up for her, but he did nothing. So, OP told the mother that she was “bold” to call her a gold digger and let it be known that her son has been unemployed for months and she’s been the one providing for him.
The parents were shocked and asked their son if it was true. OP’s fiance was frozen and yet looked angry at the same time. The parents criticized their son, and the dinner ended quicker than planned.

He Said It Was All In Her Head
OP’s fiance was mad at her, but she pointed out that he didn’t defend himself. The fiance said it was wrong to use his “unfortunate circumstance” to get back at his mother and that OP’s feelings were all “in her head.”
The parents have uninvited the two to Thanksgiving due to their disappointment with their son.
Are There Still Wedding Bells In Their Future?
There is an overwhelming comment response from the Reddit community. Most users pointed out that OP’s fiance did not back her up when she needed it. Instead, he was willing to lie to his family for months to protect his reputation.
More comments say that this won’t be the last time he won’t blame OP for her faults. So, they recommend OP not walk down the aisle if he’s willing to have OP look like a bad person.
Is OP wrong for telling the parents that their son has been unemployed? Is OP’s fiance wrong for not sticking up for her? Is there still a future between OP and her current fiance?
