Daughter Speaks Too Fast For Her, So She Wants To Hire Professional “Help”
A Reddit user says his daughter is a “fast talker” to the point where you sometimes can’t understand her most of the time. And it drives his wife crazy that she believes their daughter needs help.
“Her Mouth Is Trying To Keep Up With Her Brain”
The original poster (OP) and his wife had the school evaluate their daughter and found nothing wrong. Instead, the school said their daughter is “very smart” and “her mouth is trying to keep up with her brain.” And that she would grow out of it naturally.
OP’s wife still wants to take their daughter to a private therapist. But, their family doesn’t qualify for free speech therapy through the school, and their insurance does not cover that expense.
OP doesn’t think her daughter needs speech therapy and has no problem with how she talks. Even their kid’s teacher doesn’t have an issue with it. So, he thinks paying for speech therapy is a waste of money, especially since it costs about $150 to $200 per private session.
OP’s wife feels like he is not considering her feelings. Instead, she accuses OP of caring more about money than their daughter. So, his wife is looking for ways to pay for private theory without the help of OP.

The Community Shares Their Thoughts
Some Reddit users recommend OP have their daughter take acting classes as an alternative. This activity will give her some coaching on annunciation, timing, and pacing of speech. Also, it would be a fun extracurricular activity that she might enjoy and make friends while learning a new skill.
Another Reddit user said they were once a fast talker. They shared that “being overly aggressive with speech therapy can actually create issues. If it’s something that is not a problem and the child is likely to grow out of naturally, many speech therapists will decline to work with the child until the window for the child to grow out of the issue is starting to close.”
Is OP wrong for not wanting to pay for speech therapy sessions? Why does OP’s wife continue to be concerned when her teachers do not? Should it be a joint decision when spending money on behalf of their child?
