Father’s Impromptu Home Office Sparks Drama With Daughter
A Reddit user shares that he turned his daughter’s bedroom into a home office after she moved out and decided to live with her boyfriend. However, her boyfriend accepted a job abroad, and she didn’t want to go with him. So, she announced she’ll be moving back in with her parents.
The parents were okay with her moving back in. But, the daughter wasn’t happy living in the spare guest bedroom and wanted her original bedroom back.
What Makes This Room Special?
The original poster (OP) started working for a different company, and they allowed working from home. And, since his daughter was no longer using her room, it was a perfect opportunity for him to turn it into a home office.
He spends half of his job speaking to clients online. So, he needed a quiet place in the house. His daughter’s bedroom is ideal because it is on another floor and has a lot of privacy.
However, since moving back home, the OP’s daughter has been nagging him to give back her room. She, too, wanted the privacy that the space provided.
And, after refusing to turn his home office back to her room, the OP says his daughter is treating him like the enemy.

Is She Entitled To Get Back Her Old Room?
One Reddit user mentioned that she was offered a room with open arms and was not required to pay rent. According to this user, if she doesn’t like this living situation, she can find her own house.
Another Reddit user said they moved back in with their parents after a breakup. But, they said they pulled their weight by vacuuming the house, scrubbing the bathroom floors, and didn’t complain when they got the smallest room. This user said, “a little dose of reality would help OP’s daughter mature and grow up a little bit.”
Is the OP wrong for refusing to return his home office back to his daughter’s original bedroom? Or is his daughter actually entitled to get her old room back?
