The Parents Wanted To Buy Them A House As A Wedding Gift

The original poster (OP) and her husband asked their son and his fiance about their plans for the future. The parents wanted to buy their son a house but needed to figure out how big a house to buy.

Their son and his fiance said they were planning on having kids. So, OP and her husband were comfortable buying them a five-bedroom house. However, they kept the house under their names and planned to transfer the house title to their son once he married.

Their Son No Longer Has The Desire To Have Children

After two years of being engaged and with the wedding approaching, OP’s son informed his parents that he and his fiance no longer have the desire to have children.

OP and her husband are fine with their life decision. But they are annoyed that they bought a big house under the assumption they were going to have kids. If they knew they wanted to be childfree, OP and her husband would have bought them a two-bedroom house.

Mom Wants To Sell The House Because It’s Under Their Name 

OP doesn’t believe their son gave them “misinformation” out of malice. But, she felt like they should have within 8 years of dating that they didn’t want to have kids.

So, OP wants to sell the house and replace their home with a smaller one. And, since the title is under their name, they can legally do it. However, her husband advises her that it would cause tension between the families.

There has already been some pushback from OP’s other child, whom they also bought a house for. They are asking why their brother got a bigger house when they only got a two-bedroom one.
