They Don’t Live Flashy Lifestyles
The original poster (OP) says she and her husband don’t live flashy lifestyles. Instead, they are homebodies and prefer to watch TV on the couch. They only have a few expenses and do their best to manage their money.
When OP tries to explain what she does for work to her friends and family, they don’t easier comprehend what she’s saying. So, they quickly assume she is highly successful. But she doesn’t go out of her way to correct their assumption.
And when she spends time with her sister and kids, she doesn’t mind treating them to coffee or lunch. But, her generosity continues to feed their belief that she is super wealthy.

Her Sister Needed Help With Money
OP’s sister approached her, asking for about $600 to cover some expenses because OP’s sister was moving to a new house. To OP, that was a lot of money.
So, OP agreed to help but asked when her sister would be able to pay her back. Her sister looked confused about why she would need to pay her back because she assumes OP gets “paid well.”
Additionally, OP said she could only afford half of her sister’s request. And her sister accused her of being tight-fisted and stingy.

OP told her sister she doesn’t get paid as well as she thinks. Then, after going back and forth with one another, OP showed her sister a copy of her payslip to prove it to her.
OP’s sister said she lied to her, allowing her to believe she was a “high-flying career woman.” She also assumed she never had kids because she wanted to focus on her career.
OP’s sister added that she believed her sister would always be there for her if she needed it and be a role model to her daughters. Instead, OP’s sister was upset and believed she was lied to.
