No Kids Allowed: Restaurant Owner Draws Line in the Sand

A Reddit user owns a small restaurant that used to allow children. However, after numerous complaints from customers and the staff and dealing with kids, in general, at the restaurant, the owner created a new rule not allowing children under 12 years old.

The New Rule Attracted More Customers

The original poster’s (OP) new rule positively affected their business. More customers began showing up, and the atmosphere was better for the staff and guests.

There was some backlash from parents about the new rule. But, overall, the people in the area supported this decision.

The Owner’s Brother Wanted To Visit And Knew About The Rule

OP’s brother was in town visiting his parents. And the brother wanted to take his family and eat at OP’s restaurant.

OP’s brother knew about the age restriction rule but decided to show up with his toddler. The brother assumed OP would make an exception for the family. 

However, OP explained to their brother that his family wouldn’t receive an exception because it would be fair to the other parents. OP and their brother argued over the decision. And OP stood their ground until the brother decided to leave.

Was The Owner Wrong For Not Making An Exception?

Reddit users are saying they are glad OP stood firm on their decision. However, the users said if they saw a child in the restaurant, then they would be upset. And, if they learned OP’s family got an exception, they would be furious.

Reddit users also highlight that OP is running a business and had to make a business decision. Additionally, the users pointed out that OP’s brother went to their business expecting a “personal decision” on their behalf.
