Teacher Called Her a “Bully” For Not Inviting Everyone To Her Birthday Party
A Reddit user plans a small get-together for her daughter and four friends in her class. However, other students in her classroom heard about a “so-called” and are complaining about why they weren’t invited and call it “bullying.”
The Mom Has Always Held Small Get-Togethers For Her Birthday
The original poster (OP) said ever since her daughter was young, they’ve held small get-togethers with a few friends for her birthday. However, they are not super rich but are not necessarily poor.
They live in a small apartment. So, OP planned just to take them out to eat ice cream and do a simple activity.

Her Teacher Emailed Her For The “Lack of Inclusivity”
Word got out that OP’s daughter was “having a party.” So, her teacher emailed OP regarding her “lack of inclusivity.”
The teacher said she received complaints from her students that OP’s daughter was being a bully because she only invited “certain people” who were OP’s daughter’s close friends. So, the teacher said OP needed to invite the whole class.

She Can’t Afford To Host A Party For 30 Kids
OP had a limited budget and didn’t have plans to do anything big to celebrate her daughter’s birthday. She cannot afford to host a party for that number of kids.
Also, OP’s daughter is shy and introverted, and not all her classmates are kind to her. So, OP was also afraid her daughter wouldn’t feel comfortable.
Parents are emailing OP asking why their child wasn’t invited to the “birthday party” and pressuring her to include them. Some parents even accused OP of “discriminating” against their kids.
The Community Chimes In
Reddit users say if OP’s daughter invited 28 out of the 30 classes, she would exclude classmates. But, instead, the daughter only asked four classmates. So, the user says the kids should not get the impression that everyone is invited but them.
Other Reddit users recommend OP go straight to the school board directly and not wait to speak to the principal. And let them know if there continues to be pushback from the other parents, and then she should take legal action.
Is OP wrong for not wanting to invite the whole close? Is OP not being inclusive as described by the teacher? Is it wrong for parents to expect OP to pay for a party, so none of the kids feel left out?
