  1. Some very useful information going forward should my blog prove to be a success. All small business owners need to be able to delegate duties in my opinion or the lifestyle freedom is lost. Heard great things about Wealthy Affiliate and is on my research to do list. Keep up the good work.

  2. Hi Stephan, nice post here. While my blog is nowhere near the point of offering guest posts (like you do here), I definitely need to start backing up my blog and optimizing images…

I have a question regarding WordPress backups. How does it work actually? Is it the same with backing up our data on computers by storing a copy of it on another hard disk, etc.?

Also, how does image optimization work? Will the tools you listed above make images smaller? I noticed my site loads slower if I embed many big images but there are times I need them big so my readers can easily view them.

Hi Isaac, when you back up your site, you’re literally backing everything up (themes, plugins, content, media, etc.) as a complete zip file. You can then store it on your hard drive or in the cloud like Dropbox. My backup plugin of choice is Updraft but there are many other good ones too.

The image tools mentioned above help reduce the file size of images, not the size of the images themselves (i.e., dimensions). In regards to needing big images at times, you could try embedding a smaller-sized images and including a “click to zoom” feature like I have on several of my posts, like this one for example.

      Hope that helps!

      1. Hi Stephan. Thanks for the tips! I’ll definitely check these out.

P.S. I’m bookmarking your site for future reference.

  3. Wow, Stephan, what a great article about how to create a successful blog. I am trying to get my foot in the door with a blog site myself. It is obvious your niche was a natural, because your About Me page is certainly passionate about your disability and how you can help people in that area. But you are also apparently passionate about Wealthy Affiliate. Did you create this blog using that program? How long have you been working with that program? Sounds like it is worth checking out.

Hi Linda, yes, I’ve been with Wealthy Affiliate for over a year now but I’ve created blogs long before that too. They make the whole process much easier for sure.

  4. Hi there,

    Thanks for this.

I just installed the Snap plugin as you recommended and will play around with it and let you know how it goes for me. 🙂

I am not very sure if hiring a freelancer to moderate comments is ideal at this point as I seldom get organic comment. As of this moment, it’s pretty manageable.

I have a question about the BackUpWordpress plugin. Can I uninstall/deactivate it every now and then to make my site load faster, or is it lightweight enough to keep my page speed as fast as it is?

    1. Stephan Zev says:

Hi Pitin, I wouldn’t uninstall BackUpWordpress but deactivating it when you’re not using it isn’t a bad idea. You might also try WP Clone which I believe is a bit more lightweight. Hope that helps!
